Even when people gave a shit about wearing masks, it was always bitches in the beauty section never wearing masks…now that nobody is wearing masks and everybody forgot about the pandemic, I’ve lost the fun in beauty shopping. Just get the basics, in and out. You can forget about hanging around a cramped Sephora!
Sigh…so unglamorous. So ANNOYING! I have faith in my masks but not in the ventilation of poorly built buildings. And forcing it is definitely not worth the stress of being filled with righteous fury…don’t want the era of “endlessly pissed at plague rats” even temporarily etched onto my face! I feel these words more than suffice.
But it’s just as well — I’m not wanting or needing to put new products on my face at this time, and I’ve got enough joy in what I’ve got to tide me over till shit hits the fan (again) and other people start wearing masks (again).

Anyway. The point is. It’s when the nose and mouth must be covered up that maintaining them is the most delectable and delicious. The pleasure! The delight! My beautiful mouth, a treat just for the sweet and me 💋
Like any ambiguously aged youth, I’ve been really into lip oils lately. Here are my thots on my journey so far:
🌸 Soap & Glory Treat My Lips Ultra Smoothing Lip Oil — 10 USD 🌸
I got this at the pharmacy when I got my first covid booster…. I wanted something for my lips, but I didn’t want gloss and I was bored to tears of lip balm. And in my post-jab haze, I found this!
Well, it gets the job done. It has a nice sweet smell, but tbh while it’s a lot less sticky than a lip gloss, it still has a tackiness I don’t like. I wouldn’t buy it again, but I enjoyed our time together…at least until the smell turned at the four month mark. I guess it can’t really be helped that oil goes rancid but it’s never a fun experience no matter what context. But I do feel I got my money’s worth.
🌸 Merit Shade Slick Lip Oil In Bel Air — 24 USD 🌸
In Feburary, this was when my first lip oil turned and the inflation had yet to occur, so I still felt alright creeping around the mall at emptier hours. So I went to Sephora and was determined to find the finest lip oil in the land, price be damned!
Well ofc they didn’t have the Dior lip oil (the Dior lip oil) but the lady pointed out what lip oils they had, handing those little tester wands to me in an aggressive salesman way. There was Merit and Kosas. I liked the Kosas texture better tbh (I test on my hands), but they didn’t have clear…so Merit it was.
Honestly? At first, I loved it! Neutral vitamin E smell, but the texture was p e r f e c t. It’s still the gold standard in my mind. Not too sticky, not too balmy…just right.
However…I didn’t know about “clean beauty” at the time, until I looked up what ppl had to say about this on Reddit and the Sephora reviews. Mold in people’s lip oils after only a few weeks? Products going bad on the shelves? Dude…that’s fucking nasty! If this is a product I have to trek across town and the temple of Mammon for, that shit better last! Mold is terrible to begin with, how much more so when it’s on your face??? The fact is, because of lack of regulations, clean beauty is a scam.
I felt a bit mad, a bit sad, the little shiny gold applicator lost its luster. I used it religiously after washing my face day and night to use as much as possible, until it turned three months in. Thankfully there wasn’t much left. The off smell was very subtle, but I wasn’t going to chance it considering the above.
🌸 Dear Beach Glassy Lip Oil 🌸
I got this with my May ipsy! Yay!! Perfect timing with my previous one going bad.
The smell is sweet and delightful and evokes its name quite well. However, the texture is a bit too thick and balmy for my tastes, and I’m coming to find I don’t like tube applicators much. While I wouldn’t buy this, I enjoy using it before I go to bed.

Did you know lips are made out of the same material as your mouth? That type of tissue can’t lubricate itself, that’s why lips get so easily dry and flakey. I barely knew this a few weeks ago!
Anyway since I still needed a new clear easily obtainable lip oil, I got this at while picking up some staples. I didn’t get to test it, but look at that packaging! The little weed leafs. So cute!
It has a strong minty smell and texture, so it makes your lips tingly. While it’s a nice sensation, I can’t depend on that as a daily driver — I have to layer on some cheapie squalene infused Sephora lip balm on top when the tingling gets too much, which is kinda…missing the point. (But IS good for using up that lip balm so…whatever. This is no exact science.)
The biggest problem with this one though is, that if I use it before I go to sleep, I have the most insane wacked out vivid dreams. I’m thinking it’s the mint? But I’m not joking about these dreams. It took two nightmares to figure out the lip oil was causing it. Maybe something cool could happen if you used it at night with ritual and intention, but….I’m not going to try that anytime soon, if ever lol. Daytime use only!
🌸 Haus Laboratories PhD Hybrid Lip Oil in Hue — 12 USD 🌸
My first colored lip oil! This brand got on my radar because some tiktokinstagram boy said this was a good Dior lip oil dupe. You could only get it on Amazon so I added it to my buy later cart and forgot about it.
Well now everything in that brand is half off because Lady Gaga is relaunching at Sephora, so…lucky! Definitely a good add on to my Good Manner KF94 order. They didn’t have clear left, so I decided to try something new and got the berry shade.
Well, it ended up being super cute! While color is not why I get these, it sticks around for longer than you’d think and it makes me smile when I see it. The texture is lovely and feels good, not sticky at all. I’m kind of meh about the smell though, it has that lip gloss smell to it with a kind of milky note…it’s subtle and goes away after a while but I notice it every time. I’m not sure if I’ll get this again, but for now, it’s nice!

Thanks for reading my Lip Oil Adventure! While I’ve still yet to find that perfect textured lovely & fragrant clear lip oil, I still enjoy the hunt. Now that every celeb beauty brand is releasing lip oil, with the way trends go there’s bound to be the perfect oil for me, even if it takes a while.
