I have made my peace with Bluesky. It’s still not my favorite site, but I’ve realized something. It’s not the continuation of Twitter…it’s the continuation of asynchronous SFF fandom text communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You see…letters to the editor in the 30’s begat private fan mail exchanges which begat fanzines which begat Usenet which begat forums which begat LiveJournal which begat tumblr which begat That Side of Twitter which begat Bluesky (I may be missing some things).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As with most things, I feel on the peripheral of this, and the older I get, the less I wish to assimilate into the nerd hivemind. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But as it stands, American anime fandom is an offshoot of SFF fandom from the 80’s, and if it were not for those fans doing their best to the spread the good news of the medium then, we would not have sexy and relatively normal Gen Zrs thinking anime is cool and countercultural today, and for that…I am grateful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But really, but if it wasn’t for people posting about Kitaro on the aniblogosphere back in the day, it would’ve totally passed me by, and that would be the saddest thing. The 6th series is on Tubi with Spanish subtitles, and it’s a good time. My Spanish is not good, and my Japanese is much less so, so a lot of the more intense\/information dense moments go over my head, but…I have fun. Kitaro in Spanish is a fantastic combo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is all to say, I have uploaded a self-insert fanfiction I wrote in 2024 based on that world on my site<\/a>. It’s a wholesome short story about a millennial-presenting mother skipping out on taking care of her extremely creepy son by going on a bender with her husband’s scuzziest friend \u2661 I would not read it if you’re trying to quit smoking, or if you’re not feeling that trashy party vibe. It’s a lurid, unhinged story…but that’s what literature is to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
